In January, I moved into my first apartment near downtown Denver. ALL ON MY OWN! My little studio in Capital Hill was the best. Although other opportunities arose over the course of the year to move me out of this apartment, I will never forget learning to live on my own for the very first time. And buying my first couch thanks to my fantasy football winnings (so I did, eventually, get rid of the outdoor chairs shown here!)
I went to Tokyo for 24 hours in March, as a last trip on the buddy passes, thanks to my grandfather Poopsie. It was a whirlwind trip, but I will never forget it. You haven’t lived until you’ve attempted to see an entire city in one day after a 12 hour flight!
In July, I finished my master’s degree after almost 2 years of working to complete it. What an incredible learning experience (and challenge) it was. But I am happy I finished, and feel it has opened up many doors. Like teaching, which I mention below.
I got published on The Huffington Post for the first time in May, and have now had FIVE total articles posted there! I love having this platform to share my stories, and I have met so many incredible people through the site who have reached out after reading my work. I am most proud of the story, Why You Should Volunteer Abroad This Summer because I am so passionate about volunteering. Also, my article being published right next to Rick Steves like it is shown above? Dream come true!
In July, Todd and I moved in together! Our first home is small and just perfect for us. We love our neighborhood, which helps make up for the small space. Living and learning together has been one of the best things of this year. I am so incredibly grateful for him.
Above is the view from our place, on the first day we moved in.
In August, I started my teaching job as a part-time professor of communications! So crazy! It has been such a challenge, but I wouldn’t take back all I have learned. Next semester will be so much better because I will actually know what I am doing! 😉
In November, I launched my first eBook! As you have probably heard, I spent many months creating a book of travel printables. It was a labor of love, and one that I continue to make a lot of mistakes. But I know this is the first of many eBooks from me.
These are just the tip of the iceberg of the great things that have happened to me this year. So many other great things have happened, including many trips to California, New Mexico, Utah, North Dakota, Washington, Idaho, and more. So many babies being born to my best friends who are becoming the best parents, trips to explore this beautiful state that I now call home. But I won’t bore you with those right now – too many good things to list. What else does 2016 and 2017 have in store? All I know, it is never a dull moment in this life, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! Thank you thank you thank you for following along!
