Hello all! I have an exciting guest post today, which was originally featured in All the Rooms, but the author, Andrea, really wanted to share it with A Little Bit Adrift readers, due to its special, yet relevant message for all of you. Take it away Andrea!
“Hi there. I am Andrea. I am a 27 years old Colombian who decided to leave her country for the first time to travel to INDIA! The experience was as crazy as it sounds, and it changed my life.
Since then I have visited over 25 countries. I have done most of my trips as a solo traveler, and as one, I have learned amazing lessons that have changed my perspective on life and have made me the brave women I am now. I wrote an article to share my learnings with you all and encourage you to keep traveling and learning from every experience”
1. Enjoy myself
I have no issue with doing stuff on my own. Being with company is good, but being alone has its own fascination. After you learn to enjoy yourself everything else becomes more enjoyable. I can enjoy staying at home on a Friday night, wandering around in cities, or just laying down under the shadow of a palm on a beach. I enjoy my own company. I feel super comfortable with myself. I love me.
2. I don’t need anyone
I know it sounds rude, but don’t get me wrong; it’s not that I don’t enjoy people around me or that I am super antisocial, or that I don’t want to talk with anyone. It’s just that I’ve become a self-determined woman who can cook her own dinner, fix her own stuff, and ask for help when she needs (without losing her independence, of course). I just don’t need anyone.
3. Everything is possible
So cliché, but so true. Possibilities emerge when you do things that you haven’t done before and you do them by yourself . You learn that you can do it, and you actually will, because there’s nothing stopping you from following your dreams. Everything is possible and the universe always conspires for your benefit.
4. Strangers are just friends you haven’t met yet
Everyone around you is a wonderful human being with amazing stories to tell and moments to share. Strangers are just friends you haven’t met, and this only means that we have a lot of potential friends. How cool is that?
5. Ignorance is bliss
We like to get a lot of information about the places and culture we are traveling to, but sometimes it’s better to jump into the unknown. Ignorance can be a bliss. Since you don’t know what could happen, you have to figure it out, which opens the door for surprising and amazing possibilities.
6. Trust your instincts
Yes, jump into the unknown but, of course, be careful. Trust your instincts and follow the path you feel is the right one. Women have deep intuition, but most of the time we ignore it. Learn how to follow it, and allow it to be your compass.
7. There is so much beauty in the world
Being alone allows you to focus more on things around you. I’ve learned that there is so much allure in the world and every place has its own magic. It is usually when I’m alone watching a sunset that I can understand and feel the true beauty of this world.
8. Say Yes
Don’t be shy, be spontaneous. A simple answer could totally change the course of the plan for good. Yes is a word that opens possibilities, and so, why not? Just do it! Say yes!
