hitting the road with only my backpack.
Europe trip 2017 has finally commenced, and I made it to London! I am so excited to be here for the very first time. Although recent events has put the city (and my mother) on edge, I am happy this is the place I am starting off my three week adventure throughout Western and Eastern Europe. As I’ve noted before, I think you should always be cautious, regardless of where you are. So I am staying on high alert – per usual – to make sure I feel safe wherever I go.
My flight from Denver to Reykjavik was uneventful but felt longer than the 7 hours, due to the fact that I can’t sleep for crap on planes anymore. And although I had a coveted window on the red eye flight, I also was luck enough to be next to a separated family, who kept talking through the seats and leaning over and yelling at each other. All night long. So being the light sleeper I am, I didn’t get a whole lot of shut eye. Its ok, I know my times are going to be off for the next few days.
So after a very quick layover in Iceland (my second time there this year, that’s so cool to say!) I boarded another 3-hour flight to London. This flight went rather quickly, and I tried to sleep again with no luck. Sleeping on planes is just not my thing.
The rest of today has been to basically Operation: keep myself up (I am a firm believer getting on your local timezone sleep schedule as soon as possible is the best thing you can do!) So I have walked around my Soho neighborhood for most the day, checked into my hostel, and took my first London tube ride. All very exciting for me, as a big traveler, I can’t believe this is my first time here! This city has an energy like unlike anything I have everseen.
Now I am about to go meet my friend Palvi for the first time since 2013, and she is also playing tour guide of her hometown to me tomorrow. I can’t wait to share this journey with you!
My hostel – SoHostel Central London. I think I am officially too old for hostels! Damn it.
