You guys have read all about my ever-loved travel journal in the last week ( as a reminder, you can find the story HERE and in the Huffington Post last month) So I wanted to share with you a little more detail about what I think are good items to glue into your journal (I use a simple Elmer’s glues stick). I had a lot of people reach out to me who were perplexed by the idea of GLUING in your items into anything. Yes, my friends, it is that simple! Here are five items I collect throughout my journey to make sure I have ample things to discuss in my travel journal (and glue in!)
1) Entry tickets
Gather ticket stubs from museums, concerts, attractions, airlines, buses or trains. These are awesome ways to document when and where you traveled, giving specific dates and times.
2) Business cards of people or places
I love searching for business cards from cute boutiques, restaurants or cafes that I eat or shop in as I travel. Business cards are the perfect (and free) souvenir from different locations that remind you where you’ve been along the journey.
3) Coasters from bars and restaurants
You can find paper coasters almost anywhere. This also can include meal receipts if you had a particularly good meal, and want to remember exactly what you ate, and where you ate it. Coasters and restaurant receipts often have the address on it somewhere, which is really helpful for remembering when and where you had that decadent meal.
4) Itinerary paperwork
I am a big planner before I go on any trip , and I always like to save the itineraries from each place I planned to go. Whether I went on a tour, or just wandered around a city by myself, the little papers I bring before I leave on my trip are always fun to review again. Or if I bring my Travel Lists for organization, I some of those in too!
5) Postcards you purchase along the way to remember a specific location
Who doesn’t love a good postcard? I swear, sending these are a lost art. I always pick up an extra one as I purchase them to send to friends and family, and glue it into my journal. I do this especially if I went to a really cool site or location that I want to remember what it looked like. It gives more of a visual in your writing that is unlike anything else you can glue in. Plus, postcards are usually only 25 cents or so, so well worth the purchase to make your travel journal your very best!
6) BONUS! Anything and everything that can be glued on paper!
Don’t read too much into this. Whatever you do, and whatever you collect, is perfect for your YOUR travel journal! If you like to sketch, glue those sketches in there. You won’t lose them along the way. If you like stamps (to purchase for your postcards), throw them in there too! Try not to add things that are too thick, but really who cares? If you like it, than put it in. That is what matters, and it means it will be something you will look at again for many years to come.
