Last year, I started writing down my travel goals and shared them with you. What’s funny, is at the time they all seemed really far fetched but I am happy to report I actually hit 3 of the 5 trips I wanted to do last year. I went on a solo trip, spent 2 weeks in Italy, and traveled through Eastern Europe with my sister. What an adventure! I even did more than I had planned on, which is always nice. Like visiting London and Iceland, for instance. I will always wish I did more (how and why did I not hit up Ireland on my way home?! Grrr) but I am proud of where I went and the goals I set were almost all accomplished.
As I mentioned in my 2017 travel goals, “I know as I write this list of my 2017 travel goals, there is almost no way I will actually be able to visit every single place here, because I’m not a millionaire, and I’m also not a full-time traveler. Although I have spent quite a bit of time on the road, at the moment I am happily based in Denver and I travel abroad once or twice a year.” And that is exactly what happened, and is all still true today.
But if 2018 is teaching me anything, I am lucky to have created a flexible life that I love. And it doesn’t hurt to throw things out into the universe, because you never know what you will get back. So here we go, my 2018 travel goals:

Spain and Portugal
Well this one is sort of a given, since I mentioned we booked our honeymoon to Spain and Portugal for August. But I have to throw it in, first and foremost. To go to Europe with my love in the summer, right after we get married, is going to be the simply best. It makes me gitty just thinking about it. We are flying into Madrid, and plan to spend a few days there before heading to Portugal for a week. From what I hear, Portugal is a great mix of European culture and cuisine, great wine, good beaches, and a really friendly vibe. I love Spain, but have only been to Barcelona, so I am excited to explore somewhere new for a whole week. And this will be my 36th country visited! Wohooo!
Palm Springs, California
Another trip already booked, and to one of my favorite places in the U.S. My grandparents used to have a house in Palm Desert, so I have been spending time in this area for my entire life. It will always have a special place in my heart, and I am lucky enough to be doing my bachelorette party here in June. 20 or so friends, a big house, and lots of pool time. It sounds wonderful right now, and I haven’t done a relaxing trip like this for years. I can’t wait to celebrate with all my friends!
Alright, so I am realizing how many trips I already have booked! I guess good for me? This one is already set to head to Portland, Oregon the last weekend in June. I am going to WDS again (a summit centered around community, adventure, and service) that completely changed my life last year. Without it, I wouldn’t have been given the idea for the Pack This Journal! I can’t wait to go back, see some friends I made last year (hi Kelsey!) and just soak in all the good vibes that come when you put that many like-minded people in the same room. It is electric. I can’t wait to see what comes of it.
Another trip to Italy, you ask? This one is for something special. My friend Rachel, whom I visited last year in Italy, is getting married in Cortona and I really want to go. Not only would it be incredible to see her get married to the love of her life, but I would love the opportunity to visit one of my favorite countries for the 3rd time. I can’t think of anything better than celebrating love with all that wine!
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
Another wedding! My real estate partner, Karina, is getting married in beautiful Cabo San Lucas. And although I am a California native (aka right above Mexico) I have yet to go to Cabo. And knowing Karina and Ron, two of the classiest people I know, they will go all out with their festivities. It would be a wonderful relaxing weekend getaway, and one I am really hopeful I will be able to make happen.
New York, New York
This is a last minute addition, as Todd and I just discussed going to New York in November for a weekend getaway and to see one of our favorite artists, Chris Stapleton in concert. Although I have been one time before, it has been over 10 years now, and I think visiting New York in the Fall/Winter is going to be awesome. I would love to see another broadway show and just walk around this energetic city.
This is year 2 of this being on the list, and I want it to happen oh so badly! I can’t say it enough, since this has been on my list for probably TEN years. As someone who prides themselves on all the places they’ve been, I can’t believe I haven’t checked Thailand off the list. It is not about seeing the glorious beaches, which I know are beautiful. But I want to see so much more, like Bangkok and Phuket, and even more places off the beaten path. This place (along with India and going to the Holi Festival) will forever be on my top travel list until I finally make them happen!
As you can see, my “Travel Goals for 2018” is more like “Travel that I know is going to happen for sure, with a few great places thrown in there!” But I truly always love writing grand lists like this; I’ve done it since I was a little kid. I’ll never stop studying guidebooks, marking down all the places I hope to visit one day, and dreaming as much as I possibly can. No matter what, even if I achieve absolutely none of these travel goals, I’m sure 2018 will still hold lots of adventures for me. I am sure of it!
Here’s to 2018!
