As some of you may know, I am all about writing lists. I love making lists of things to do, places to go, books to read, blog posts to write. Whether or not I actually accomplish everything on those lists is another matter all together, but hey, it’s the thought that counts, right?
I know as I write this list of my 2017 travel goals, there is almost no way I will actually be able to visit every single place here, because I’m not a millionaire, and I’m also not a full-time traveler. Although I have spent quite a bit of time on the road, at the moment I am happily based in Denver and I travel abroad once or twice a year.
But I want things to change 2017. I want to travel MORE. And I don’t want money or scheduling to be the reason why I don’t do it. I want to have a job where my income is limitless, and I have the possibility to do all of this and more. So I believe if you put it out in the universe, it will come. So here goes universe, I am listening to you!
But oh, these itchy feet will never be satisfied. And so, although I have only one completed trip for 2017 (right at the beginning, to Iceland, which was an incredible way to start the year) here’s where I’d really love to go for the remainder of 2017. Short and sweet.

With TWO good friends (hi Alicia and Rachel!) heading there over the summer, and potentially a third, I think the number one most likely place I will head this year is back to Italy. Although I have been before, it has been quite a few years, and I plan to see a few parts of the country that I didn’t before. You can never complain about going back to Italy! But I plan to stop at a few new countries along the way, which leads me to my next most likely desintaion…
Croatia & Eastern Europe
I have wanted to see Croatia for as long as I can remember, so this has to go on my travel list if I go to Italy. I have also been looking into going on an Eastern European train trip, which would include Hungary and the Czech Republic. So maybe I can hit all four of the above countries in a two week period, in one fell swoop. Wouldn’t that be nice? Here’s hoping!
I just have to throw it in here, because I am hoping to get all the European countries I have been dying to go to done this year. Ireland could be a stop on my way to Italy and Eastern Europe.
On the opposite end of the world, I am still dying to go to Thailand. I have never been before (even though I have been to Vietnam and Cambodia! So close, but yet so far) and feel as a lifelong traveler, I must make this a priority in the next year. I would love to go with my sister and Todd, and I know it is one of those trips that once you get there, you really don’t have to spend a lot of money. So I have my eye out for cheap travel deals. If you find any yourself, please let me know!
One of my favorite people, and all-around great couples, are getting married in Hawaii in May. Now I love Hawaii SO much, and have always felt a soulful connection to this place. And I haven’t been in years! I know it would be a nice vacation, but it is almost more expensive to go on this trip than it is for me to go to Europe. Plus they are getting married my last week of school, which makes it difficult, but if I can swing it I really really want to make it happen!
A Solo Trip
Yes, I know this is not a destination, but it’s a goal right? I want to make sure I go on at least ONE solo trip this year. Since my Iceland trip changed last minute to have a friend join me (which was great!) I still am itching for an adventure by myself. I don’t know if that means just a road trip around Colorado and the Southwest, or a much larger and longer destination, but I know I always love the quiet solitude a trip alone can bring. I write more. I read more. I appreciate LIFE so much in those quiet moments. I love having companions by my side, but having the time to reflect never hurts either!
So, where would you love to go in 2017? Have you been to any of the places on this list? Let me know your thoughts and ideas in the comments below! I read every single one of them!
